We are ending the month of Road Trip Escapes with San Antonio, Texas. This trip does take a little longer than the other road trips, but you will not be disappointed. From Baton Rouge, you can arrive in San Antonio in 7 hours.

My family of 4 visited San Antonio in July 2021. This was the first time the kids had traveled to San Antonio and can actually participate in the activities and attractions. Each time we set off to visit a destination they only remember that the current vacation as the best vacation ever. I had to share pictures with them from our other visits to San Antonio because they didn’t believe/remember we had traveled there previously.

While in San Antonio, we played, relaxed, shopped and enjoyed each other’s company.

  1. We played at Natural Bridges Caverns. It was hot, and we were all tired after our first caverns tour. We loved that Natural Bridges has a kids mystery walking maze that should have taken 20 minutes but took us well over 30 minutes. The smaller ropes course was not for my family due to our heights, but the larger ropes course was too high in the sky. Therefore, we didn’t get a chance to play but hopefully soon…when others aren’t as fearful of heights. We also played at Six Flags San Antonio! Let’s just say it was an all-day adventure and well worth buying a season pass. With the season pass you can visit other Six Flags locations throughout the United States during the calendar year. YOU WILL SAVE money! Travel up the tall tall Tower was amazing! Other places we wanted to visit but were too tired to go: Sea World, Schlitterbahn, and LegoLand/Sea Life. We underestimated the time we needed to enjoy this wonderful destination – SO we will be back SOON! Don’t forget to pack your insect repellant and sunscreen.
  2. We relaxed at a Hilton brand hotel. We are Hilton members and pride ourselves in staying with Hilton. Our hotel was in the middle of all the fun. About 10 minutes from Six Flags and 20 minutes from the Alamo. Other great hotels that are cost friendly, great locations, and are a part of an amazing brand include the Hyatt and the Marriott. Be sure to use a travel agent to find the best rates for hotels. I was able to use some of my supplier contacts to book the best rates for our hotel stay.
  3. We shopped at San Marcos Premium Outlets mall, and it was fabulous! Our favorite stores were Gucci, Prada, Marc Jacobs, Nike, Banana Republic, and J Crew. Always check the brands coupons prior to shopping. We were able to save an additional 15% at the Nike outlet by downloading the app and subscribing to become members.
  4. We enjoyed each other at various restaurants and while walking the Alamo for shopping treats. Our favorite dinner spots were: Pappadeaux’s Seafood (crab cakes), Chuy’s (queso), Smoke Shack BBQ (ribs), and Saltgrass (rib eye with crab toppings and the pepper wraps). Money Saving TIP: We always save money at restaurants by having our 6-year-old and 8 year old share a meal. Sometimes they hate it but at least we don’t waste food.

What a grand time we had in San Antonio this summer! I enjoyed blogging about our travels. We visit a different destination every 3 months, so hopefully, I will start blogging more about our domestic and international joyful travels.

Stay tuned for more pictures from our travels…I have to download them for the camera!
