We love to visit San Diego, California! Mainly because we have close family in the area. But also, because the weather is second to none. Beautiful sunny mornings and nice crisp nights.

When in California, we always feel free. Free to explore, free to have the windows down, free to relax, and free to just be us. I think I have a severe residential crush on California…maybe our future residence resides there???

This year’s visit to San Diego was perfect because we were able to share our Joyful Travels with some of our family members. We never have an opportunity to travel with our family, so this was an extra special trip.

Joyful Travelers, I want to welcome you to our summer 2022 San Diego Travels:

New Orleans Airport: The New Orleans International Airport is about an hour from North Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Due to short layovers and direct flights from New Orleans, we always prefer to book in New Orleans rather than from the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport. Now, don’t get me wrong, if the price is right, I am willing to travel from the Baton Rouge airport (airport code: BTR) and bypass the NOLA airport (airport code: MSY).

Southwest Airlines: We traveled via Southwest Airlines. This airline is different from most because, with Southwest Airlines, there are no assigned seats. Therefore, you want to try to get a good boarding number. To do so, it is essential that you check in to your flight as soon as the clock strikes 24 hours before departure. You will need your confirmation number and the passenger names to check-in. Southwest will assign you an alphanumerical boarding number. If you don’t think you will be able to sign in 24 hours before departure, it may be wise to pay for early check-in through Southwest. In the past, we haven’t used the early check-in policy due to our kids’ ages; however, this year, we will utilize this service to ensure we receive a good boarding group. Southwest will allow individuals with kids to board after the A group, regardless of their alphanumeric boarding value. If you have an A boarding pass, you should check in when your alphanumeric guest grouping is called. Note: Southwest allows passengers who are elderly, have a hard time walking, or need assistance to board first with one “chaperon”

The biggest highlight of our trip was a visit to a BBQ spot in San Diego called “Bowlegged BBQ.” The owners were hospitable, and the food was amazing. Our group of seven enjoyed the brisket, chicken, and ribs served by the Texas native owner. Be sure to stop by when you visit San Diego.

We love to provide our clients with “rule of thumb” pricing to help them get an idea of what they should expect to spend when traveling. We find this process easy because you can determine if you can afford your trip. So, please use the rule of thumb to assist you with budgeting for your trip.

A family of 4 in one room can travel from New Orleans, Louisiana, to San Diego, California, and enjoy 3-star sleeping accommodations for four nights at a rate of about $700 per person.

Don’t forget to book your travels with Joyful Travels. We specialize in sunny destinations and tropical adventures, but we are willing to assist all travelers.
